my trauma didn't make me stronger

My trauma didn’t make me stronger; it just left me scared,
Weak and shattered, filled with dread, it’s more than I can bear.

No superhero origin, just pain that won’t let go,
Night terrors, panic, and the past that haunts me so.

It broke me down, not built me up, left me feeling less,
Barely hanging on to life, drowning in distress.

My past clings tight, a heavy cloak that chills me to the bone,
Every cell, every hair on edge, in this haunted zone.

All it taught me was to fight, to claw my way back out,
Because sinking deeper meant losing myself, no doubt.

It haunts me every single day, can’t seem to break free,
Can’t just “get over it,” it’s not that easy for me.

But I’m still here, still standing, though the trauma’s in my breath,
Living with these ghosts until my final rest.
